Digits

Our (the entire planet's) number system is base-10. That's because math started with counting on fingers. Now, in my opinion, base-8 would be a lot neater and make a lot more sense. 8 is 2^3. 10 is just.. 5*2. 8 is a lot more even. I wonder how much different our lives would be if we only had 4 fingers to begin with.
It's really hard to imagine though, cause all of our numbers have set values, and we can't imagine them having any other value. For instance, on a base-8 system, 10 would have the value of 8, and 20 would be 16. 33 would be 27, and so on. We can't easily imagine such a system without having to "translate" in between.
